Italian Wine Biscuits (Ciambelline al Vino)

 Ingredients
  • Plain Flour, 500g
  • Sugar, 200g
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1 small glass (the size of a small white wine glass, not too full)
  • White Wine, 1 small glass (the size of a small white wine glass, not too full)
  • Baking Powder, 3 tsp
  • Pinch of salt
In a bowl combine all ingredients together until it forms a soft dough. Divide the dough into small pieces (approx. 25 grams each), roll each piece into a rope and pinch the edges together to form a ring. Dip one side in sugar. Bake the rings on a baking sheet in a preheated 180°C oven for about 15 minutes.

  2. Thank you Vanessa!
Just one clarification - my friends here in the office asked me what kind of glass they should use to measure the olive oil and the wine.
I actually used a white wine glass (but not too big) - I hope it makes sense :-)).

  3. We used to receive a lot of sweets from Italy, but not anymore :( Which is a reason to start cooking them at home :) Thank you for the recipe, it looks delicious yet simple. I love your presentation as well - with that red ribbon the bisquits look like a present!

  4. Would a dessert wine work well in this recipe? I'm thinking a lovely muscat or even a nice icewine might lend a subtle sweetness to the biscuits in a fun way.

  5. Hi Carolyn,
I actually used dry white whine, but I guess a sweet wine can do the trick too. A good idea would also be to use a dry-ordinary white wine for the recipe, and drink the sweet one while eating the biscuits :-) I love muscat wine too.. unfortunately it's very difficult to find it in the UK :-(
